Disclosure: I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for Boys & Girls Clubs of America. I received a promotional item to thank me for my participation.
Today there are things we as parents have to consider that our parents never had to worry about as we were growing up. Today there is a new social platform springing up almost daily that our kids tend to find before we ever do. It’s great that they are tech savvy, but it can also be scary because it’s nearly impossible for us to monitor what information they are sharing and who their friends REALLY are that they chat with on these networks. The Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) realize these concerns are very valid and have assembled a panel of BGCA teens from around the world to make up the BGCA’s Cyber Safety Ambassadors.
The BGCA’s Cyber Safety Ambassadors answer parents’ questions from a teens’ perspective on the site CyberSafeFutures.org and partnered with Sprint, this is a great resource for Internet Safety Awareness Month. What a great way to educate parents from our kid’s point of view so that when we decide to have these conversations with our kids we can relate to what they are going through. The BGCA is always thinking of our kids safety and that includes their online safety.
As parents there are always things we just aren’t sure about when it comes to Cyber Safety. I had a couple questions myself recently in regards to tools I can use to help me monitor my tween’s online activities so I submitted them to a BGCA Cyber Ambassador vie the Cyber Safe Futures page. Just ask your question to the BGCA Cyber Ambassadors regarding cyber-bullying, social networking, online privacy, mobile smarts and other cyber-related issues. The bonus is you not only get an answer, but you will be entered to win one of three iPad minis and $500 to your BGCA club of choice.
