Homemade Holiday Gift: Wooden Cross

Handmade Wooden Clothespin Cross

It’s time to start crafting for the holidays. I love to make things for friends and the most popular gift last year was the wooden cross or crucifix. Not only is it super easy to make but it costs under $10 to do a couple of them.  I got my first one as a gift when I was commissioned as an Alpha Peer Minister. I loved it. It’s simple and personal and it looks awesome one the wall.

Wooden Clothespin Crucifix Supplies

What you need:

  • 18 wooden clothespins
  • hot glue gun and glue
  • lightweight wire
  • wood stain or paint (optional)

This is the pattern from the backside.wooden clothespin cross

Directions:

Begin by taking all the metal off the clothes pins. For the main part of the cross you  want to follow the pattern above, starting with the middle column of the cross using the hot glue to connect all pieces.  Then building and glue the column to the left and right. Build and glue the left and right arm of the cross once the middle is complete. Once done glue on Jesus using the remaining pins.  On the back twist some lightweight wire and glue on for hanging.

Enjoy!

  1. I love this! What a great idea and easy to make too!

  2. Wow crazy what you can do with clothespins

  3. That is really pretty, and something I may even be able to do. Will have to give it a try. It’d make a nice gift for my teen kids.

What a great craft idea. This would be a good one for Sunday school teachers.
